PROVIDENCE BAY – The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Providence Bay area man with drug and weapons related offences following a search warrant executed in Central Manitoulin Township.
At 1:30 pm on October 15, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP assisted by an OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), an OPP Canine and an OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) attended the man’s residence with a Criminal Code search warrant. As a result of the search, firearms, ammunition, improvised explosive devices, additional bomb making material and cannabis marihuana were seized.
A 46-year-old male of Providence Bay was arrested and charged with the following: explosives, making or possession for unlawful purpose, contrary to section 82(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) (2 counts); careless storage of a firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC (2 counts); unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC (2 counts); and with possession of a substance included in schedule II – cannabis marihuana, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
The accused was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 20, 2016 at 10 am in Gore Bay.
