Press Release: Little Current readying water distribution centre

Crews working to regain water supply at plant, drinking water advisory issued

LITTLE CURRENT—At approximately 8 am this morning there was a mechanical failure ay the Little Current Water Plant. Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) attended the plant and is effecting the necessary repairs. As a result of the water service interruption, the Town of Little Current is under a drinking water advisory, a press release from the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands states.

“This means that our residents will have to secure an alternative source of potable water and assume that the water from the plant is not consumable. The municipality is taking the necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the interruption and will be providing potable water (bottled) to the residents of Little Current.”

As soon as a supply is available, a water distribution centre will be established at the Little Current Public Works Shop located at 27 Gammie Street, next to the NEMI Recreation Centre. Residents attending the distribution centre will be provided with bottled water for the duration of the drinking water advisory. Potable water is available at the Sheguiandah water treatment plant through an outside service where residents can fill their own water jugs and other containers for their personal use.

“The Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands is taking all necessary steps to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to our residents,” the press release continues. “Once the plant is operational, tap water can be used for non-consumptive purposes such as the operation of toilets.”

As new information becomes available it will be shared with the public by municipal staff.
