Public Health Sudbury & Districts has issued a drinking water advisory effective immediately for all businesses and residents of Range Street, Park Street, and areas south of Park Street in Gore Bay using municipal drinking water.
A drinking water advisory means that people who take their water from the municipal system should NOT use it for drinking; making juice, infant formula, or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruit and vegetables; or brushing teeth. Boiling the water may not make it safe for drinking. For these purposes, water from an alternate source, such as bottled water, should be used. The water can be used for laundry and bathing (excluding small children who could swallow the water).
The municipality advises that residents can bring and fill their own containers at the nearest water filling station located at the Water Treatment Plant at 119 Lighthouse Road, Gore Bay.
Once the municipality has re-established the water supply, which was interrupted due to maintenance, residents should not use the water for human consumption until advised otherwise by Public Health Sudbury & Districts.
“It is possible that the loss of water pressure created conditions that compromised the safety of the drinking water,” said Burgess Hawkins, a manager in Public Health’s Health Protection Division. “Until bacteriological testing of the drinking water indicates a safe supply, the drinking water advisory will remain in effect as a precaution.”
Public Health staff will continue to monitor the situation. Public Health Sudbury & Districts will notify the municipality when the drinking water advisory is lifted and residents will be advised.

Santé publique Sudbury et districts a émis un avis concernant l’eau potable qui entre en vigueur immédiatement et concerne les entreprises et les résidents de la rue Range, de la rue Park et des secteurs au sud de la rue Park, à Gore Bay, qui utilisent le réseau municipal d’eau potable.
Un avis concernant l’eau potable signifie que les gens qui tirent leur eau du réseau municipal ne devraient PAS la boire, ou bien l’utiliser pour faire du jus ou de la préparation pour nourrissons, pour fabriquer de la glace, pour cuisiner, pour laver les fruits et les légumes crus ou pour brosser leurs dents. Faire bouillir l’eau ne la rendra peut-être pas propre à la consommation. Ainsi, il y a lieu d’utiliser de l’eau provenant d’une autre source, comme de l’eau en bouteille. L’eau pourra servir à la lessive et au bain (sauf pour les jeunes enfants qui risqueraient d’en avaler).
La municipalité avise les résidents qu’ils peuvent apporter et remplir leurs propres contenants à la station la plus proche qui se trouve à l’usine de traitement du 119, chemin Lighthouse, à Gore Bay.
Lorsque la municipalité aura rétabli l’approvisionnement en eau, qui a été interrompu pour une raison de maintenance, les résidents devront éviter de consommer l’eau jusqu’à ce que Santé publique ait donné un avis contraire.
« Il se peut que la perte de pression ait créé des conditions qui ont compromis la salubrité de l’eau potable, a déclaré Burgess Hawkins, gestionnaire à la Division de la protection de la santé de Santé publique. Jusqu’à ce que les analyses bactériologiques aient permis de croire que l’approvisionnement est sûr, l’avis concernant l’eau potable restera en vigueur par mesure de précaution ».
Le personnel de Santé publique continuera de surveiller la situation. Ce dernier avisera la municipalité lorsque l’avis concernant l’eau potable aura été annulé et les résidents seront mis au courant.
