TOWN OF NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS
September 5, 2024
Bottled water is available at the distribution center that has been set up at the Little Current Public Works yard which is located at 27 Gammie Street (beside the Recreation Center).
At approximately 8:00 this morning there was a mechanical failure in the Little Current Water Plant. Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) attended the plant and is effecting the necessary repairs. As a result of the water service interruption, the Town of Little Current is in a Drinking Water Advisory. This means that our residents will have to secure an alternative source of potable water and assume that the water from the plant is not consumable. The municipality is taking the necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the interruption and will be providing potable water (bottled) to the residents of Little Current.
As soon as a supply is available, a distribution center will be established at the Little Current Public Works Shop located at 27 Gammie Street, next to the NEMI Recreation Center. Residents attending the distribution center will be provided with bottled water for the duration of the Drinking Water Advisory. Potable water is available at the Sheguindah water treatment plant through an outside service where residents can fill their own water jugs and other containers for their personal use.
The Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands is taking all necessary steps to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to our residents. Once the plant is operational, tap water can be used for non-consumptive purposes such as the operation of toilets.
As new information becomes available it will be shared with the public by our staff and through social media and the local radio stations.
