SUDBURY–The Greater Sudbury Police Service has been made aware of a scam where individuals are being advised, via email, that they are entitled to a refund of a specific amount and/or their tax assessment has been verified and they are eligible to receive a tax refund. These emails often have Canada Revenue Agency logos or internet links that appear official. Some may even contain obvious grammar or spelling mistakes.
The following is one such fraudulent email, received locally, that has not been sent or authorized by the Canada Revenue Agency.
Subject: TAX REFUND NOTIFICATION.
Dear Applicant,
The contents of this email and any attachments are confidential and as applicable, copyright in these is reserved to Canada Revenue Agency . Unless expressly authorised by us, any further dissemination or distribution of this email or its attachments is prohibited.
We announce you: After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 1951.44 CAD
Complete your tax refund form by HERE. After completing the form, please submit the form by clicking the SUBMIT button on form and allow us 5-9 business days in order to process it.
