Police seek suspect in serious assault on M’Chigeeng elder

M’CHIGEENG–Investigators with the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Criminal Investigation Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect(s) following an assault on a M’Chigeeng First Nation elder.

On Sunday, May 11, 2014, between the hours of 7 and 11 pm a man was assaulted inside his residence on Back Street, M’Chigeeng First Nation. The male victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack. The victim was discovered inside his home that night by a neighbour and paramedics were called to the scene. The man was then transported to Manitoulin Health Centre by ambulance and later flown to a Hospital in Sudbury. The 70-year-old M’Chigeeng man remains in critical, but stable, condition at Health Sciences North. No one else was injured in the incident.

The assault was reported to UCCM Police on Monday, May 11 at about 6 am. The OPP Forensic Unit obtained physical evidence from the residence. Members of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police have been actively investigating the assault and the area has been canvassed for additional information.
