Police seek help in locating, identifying alleged sexual assault perpetrators

LITTLE CURRENT—A sexual assault against an 18-year-old woman in the early morning hours of Monday, July 11 at Little Current’s main green space is still unsolved, but police are advising the public that the assault is an isolated incident.

At approximately 3:30 am, on Monday, July 11, a female individual was walking when she was offered a ride from two unidentified males occupying a dark-coloured vehicle. The vehicle was driven to Low Island Municipal Park where an alleged sexual assault on the female occurred.

Community Services Officer Constable Steve Hart told The Expositor that the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Rumours of two intoxicated males in the Low Island vicinity during the day on Sunday, July 10 are not related to the case, he reports. There is no indication as of yet whether the two males involved are locals or visitors to Manitoulin.

Constable Hart also advised the public that there is no concern by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) that there are “predators running loose,” calling it an isolated incident.

The OPP is seeking the public’s assistance and is asking anyone with information about this crime to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or to pass on their report to the nearest police authority.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online at www.tipsubmit.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
