PRESS RELEASE: Police investigating after Wiikwemkoong person badly burned

WIIKWEMKOONG—One person has been transported to a hospital after receiving serious injuries on a property in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

On August 26, 2024 at approximately 7 pm, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS), the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), fire services and emergency medical services responded to a call for service involving a person with severe burn injuries. The individual was transported to hospital by Ornge to receive medical treatment.

The Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit and WTPS are continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety.
