Police Investigate Collision Involving School Bus

M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION – At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and members of the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Police (UCCM) responded to a three vehicle collision on Highway 551, at the M’Chigeeng First Nation. The collision involved a school bus carrying students, an automobile, and a dump truck. The collision resulted in minor injuries to the driver of the automobile. That driver was transported to hospital. No students were injured.

As a result of the collision investigation, a 22 year old of the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, Ontario has been charged with careless driving, contrary to section 130 the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, and drive a commercial vehicle – improper licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
