Planning board budget sees increase to municipalities

GORE BAY—The Manitoulin Planning Board has agreed to increase the municipal requisitions on its 2014 budget by three percent. The board has also raised the cost of tariff fees by a minimum of $50 on most of its fees, while some of the fees will remain the same.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the board agreed to a three percent increase in its budget-requisitions to municipalities and the increase to most of its tariffs will mean the planning board fees will be more in line with other areas such as Sudbury East.

“We can’t set an increase to the municipalities without increasing the fees for applications for individual lots,” said planning board member Gary Brown. “If the municipalities are going to see an increase of three percent, then the fees should go up as well. The municipalities have seen increases in the last five years and we have paid for the new Official Plan as well.”

“I agree with Gary, it is time for the increase on the service fees,” said Brad Ham. “We can’t keep putting this all on the municipalities.”
