PETER EDWARD

With sadness the family announces the passing of Peter Dean Edward at University Hospital, London, Ontario on Sunday, July 2, 2017, age 89. Beloved husband of the late Peggy Allison Edward, nee Jones. Loving father of Paul (Lori), Tim (Kim), Jane, and Karen (Ken). Dear grandfather of Shelby (Dawn), Jordan, Lauren (Rhett), Nicholas, Christopher and Harrison and great-grandfather of Rowan and Fenna. Brother of Charlotte Edington, Jill Gordon, and the late John Edward (June), Thomas Edward (Isobel) and Patricia Bateman (Bob). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Peter was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. After graduating from McGill University with a BSc in Agriculture, Peter returned to Sudbury where he had various successful business interests. Outside of business, Peter’s interests included a hobby farm on Manitoulin Island. Peter and his wife Peggy were avid tennis players and horseback riders, and enjoyed winters in Florida. Upon his semi-retirement, Peter and Peggy moved to the Toronto area and eventually settled in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Peter had a special connection to Lake Manitou on Manitoulin Island where he spent every summer of his life. His love for the area and his concern for environmental stewardship led to the formation of the Lake Manitou Area Association. Peter was proud to have served as Association president for many years. Peter was a true gentleman who will be remembered for his love of family, generosity, kindness and wisdom. The funeral service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 2 pm, with visitation preceding from 1 pm to 2 pm. Cremation followed by private interment at Niagara Lake Shore Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Memorial contributions to the Lake Manitou Area Association or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
