‘It’s time we honour the colours from our medicine wheel teachings’
To the Expositor:
On Friday, March 21, 2014 the United Urban Warrior Society Ontario Canada held a peaceful demonstration at the intersection of Hwy 17 and 6. The peaceful rally was to bring attention to the public for support for an inquiry into the 826-plus missing and murdered native women in Canada. We stood on concrete islands on both sides holdings flags and non-racial placards. We received a lot of supportive car honks, a couple of women from Sagamok First Nation and Espanola joined us with support and among the 17 of us were two police officers not in uniform. It was a great turnout. We enjoyed the coffee and donuts that were donated by a councillor from Ward 3 in McKerrow and another individual. We are a non-violent organization. We operate on a peaceful level. The rally we had on Friday, March 21, 2014, however, was not affiliated with the tremendous blockades in Tyendinaga and Toronto areas. We supported them for the rallies they are doing (they do their own rallies as they see fit). We are only affiliated with the 26 other U.U.W.S. in the United States along with A.I.M. and Red Power Media from Winnipeg, Manitoba. We are hosting another rally at the Espanola turn off on May 11, 2014 (Mother’s Day) from 11 am to 1 pm. This rally will be for all women including non-natives. It’s time we honour the colours from our medicine wheel teachings.
