ESPANOLA—A new collective agreement has now been ratified by both paramedics with the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board (DSB) and the board itself. The paramedics were represented by Ontario Public Sector Employees Union Local 679.

“I heard yesterday that the paramedics (union) had ratified the new contract agreement,” stated Fern Dominelli, CAO of DSB on December 22. The DSB had previously ratified the new contract agreement.

Mr. Dominelli explained the new collective agreement is for a four-year period, retroactive to January 2016 and running to December 31, 2019. Members of the union will receive a two percent salary increase in year one, 1.4 percent in year two, 1.25 percent in year three and 1.25 percent in year four.

“There was a lot of work done on the language and scheduling in the collecting agreement,” said Mr. Dominelli.

The negotiating parties had signed a memorandum of settlement on November 15, 2016 and had unanimously recommended ratification of this memorandum of settlement to their respective principals.

The previous  collective agreement between the Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB and OPSEU Local 679 had expired on December 31, 2015.
