JOHN ALVIN ORR

August 20, 1925-April 5, 2012

Last words of John A. Orr, B.A. (5T0) C.A. (Ontario, Alberta).

I, John Alvin Orr, son of Thomas FitzAlvin and Gladys Mae Orr (Skippen), am a proud Haweater born and raised on Manitoulin Island, Ontario and a loyal Canadian – RCE, WWII, Militia and Reserves.

It has been my great and good fortune to have been married to Helen Zacharias for over 62 years, who bore and raised our five children: John P., Thomas A., Mary C., Patricia F., and James B.W. to be responsible and productive Canadians, who along with their spouses, are raising our seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, all of whom survive.

I have worked in nickel mines, smelters, and sawmills, and on farms and railways. Also in construction and mineral exploration, and as an electrician, soldier and auxiliary police. Was accountant, auditor, comptroller, and executive in government, broadcasting (CBC), housing, finance, and charities in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta, B.C., Yukon, and the North West Territories.

On reflection, I have done those things that should not have been done, and have left undone those things that should have been done.

Anglican service by family at home, burial with parents and relatives in Elm View Cemetery, Sheguiandah, Ontatrio.

In memory of John Orr, donations to charity of your choice or to Manitoulin Health Centre (Tree of Life Radiology Campaign) would be appreciated. Send to Manitoulin Health Centre, 11 Meredith St., Box 640, Little Current, P0P1K0, Ontario.
