MINDEMOYA—Thanks to Island generosity, an OPP Stuff a Cruiser event outside the Mindemoya Foodland in honour of Provincial Constable Marc Hovingh raised a whopping $7,570 in the course of only four hours. PC Hovingh fell in the line of duty in Gore Bay two years ago.
From 3 pm to 7 pm on November 19, OPP officers were joined by MNR Conservation Officers and volunteers in helping to load a cruiser full of donations for the Manitoulin Family Resources food bank—collecting 1,790 pounds of food and $7,570 in cash donations.
“This is a wonderful way to honour Marc,” said his widow Lianne Hovingh, who was on hand with two of their children. “Marc loved to feed people.”
“I think this is wonderful,” said Foodland manager Wayne Orr. “It is really an honour to be able to help out with this effort.”
OPP officers made three cruiser-full trips to the foodbank.
“The Manitoulin OPP would like to thank the public for their support and generosity during this event,” noted Community Safety Officer Berkley Parisien. “This was the perfect way to honour P/C Marc Hovingh’s legacy.”
