OPP investigates house fire
On Sunday, July 13 at 8 pm, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of a house fire on Blake Street in Little Current. The Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands Fire Department and OPP officers arrived on scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. All family members made it out of the home and there are no injuries as a result of this fire.
The fire department managed to extinguish the blaze. As a result of the preliminary investigation the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal has been called to assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Vehicle impounded for seven days for speeding
On Friday, July 11 at 10:20 pm, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 540 in the Northeast Town. A westbound 2014 silver Mazda M5T was clocked on radar doing over the 50 km/h speed limit. As a result, the vehicle was stopped and the driver charged. As a result of this investigation a 26-year-old male of Gordon Township has been charged with racing a motor vehicle under Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic act of Ontario. The vehicle has been impounded under this legislation for seven days.
