OPP detachment commander said no decision made concerning amalgamation

MANITOULIN—There is nothing new as far as any decision being made on a proposed amalgamation of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment with the Espanola OPP police services.

“No, there has been nothing coming out on the amalgamation,” stated Staff Sergeant Kevin Webb, the Manitoulin detachment commander of the OPP at a Manitoulin Community Policing Association Committee (CPAC) meeting last week. He noted, “there has been a cabinet shuffle so this has to all be in place before any final decisions are made.”

As reported in last week’s edition of the Recorder, the members of the Manitoulin Municipal Association (MMA) supported a resolution passed by Billings township (at a recent meeting) that the detachment commander and administrative staff of the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remain on the Island if amalgamation takes place involving the Manitoulin OPP and Espanola police services.”
