MINDEMOYA—The Ontario Ombudsman’s office has determined that the municipality of Central Manitoulin did not contravene the rules and regulations when it sold a small portion of the Wagg’s Wood property and has closed its investigation.
“Someone had made a request to the Ontario Ombudsman’s office to look into the sale of the two acres of Wagg’s Wood property, by the municipality,” Richard Stephens, Mayor of Central Manitoulin told the Recorder after a regular municipal council meeting last week. “The Ombudsman’s office carried out their investigation and they determined we (Central Manitoulin) had not contravened the provincial rules and regulations. The case was cleared.”
When the inquiry had been formally requested on the land sale, the municipality provided the Ombudsman’s office with all its information pertaining to this, municipal clerk Ruth Frawley told council at last week’s meeting. She pointed out the Ombudsman’s office inquiry has now been completed and the file was closed. There was no formal report released by the Ombudsman’s office.
“I asked for the identity of the person who had filed the concern and the Ombudsman’s office said it was just a general inquiry,” said Ms. Frawley. She was told the case had been closed by the Ombudsman’s office.
Ms. Frawley added, “I asked if there would be an official letter sent to the municipality-council and was told that no, this would not be the case.”
