Ollie Matheson


April 12, 1931 – December 13, 2013

In loving memory of Ollie Matheson, a resident of Gore Bay, and formerly of Silver Water, who died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the age of 82 years. She was born at Silver Water, daughter of the late Russell (Bunny) and Naomi Mae (Edmonds) Tenniswood. Ollie had worked as a telephone operator in Gore Bay for many years. In 1969, Ollie and Matt moved to Newmarket for Matt’s job, and Ollie worked at a Nursing Home and in the late 70s returned to Silver Water to the Edmonds homestead. Ollie was on the Manitoulin Hospital Board for a number of years. She loved horses and hummingbirds. In early years, she had played in orchestras across the Island, playing piano. As well she played guitar and was a self taught accordion player. Some favourite pastimes were reading, puzzle books and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Ollie was a tremendous mother, and will be sadly missed by her kids and grandkids. She left a legacy of always being willing to help and anyone, anytime was welcome in her home. Ollie was predeceased by her beloved husband Matt on August 26, 2004. Loving and loved mother of Lyla, husband Peter Munt of Evansville, Norman, partner Linda of Sudbury and Don and his wife Virginia of Silver Water. Proud grandmother of Stephen, Judy, Robert, Katerina, Greg, Jessica and Paul and eight great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Marge, husband Ross Strain, Don Tenniswood and his wife Venus and Hazel Rhuele (Henry predeceased). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home after 7 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 and at St. Andrew’s United Church in Silver Water on Wednesday from 10 am – 11 am. The funeral service to celebrate Ollie’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11 am with Rev. Janice Frame officiating. Spring interment in Silver Lake Cemetery. If so desired, donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, the Kidney Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
