January pipe burst caused extensive damage to the building
M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION—If everything goes according to plan the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation (OCF) is looking to be open again in mid-March after a pipe burst in the building on January 25 causing extensive water damage.
“March 15 is the date we are looking at now,” stated Glen Hare, OCF executive director last week. “Our insurance company is now in the picture. There was a lot of damage done and the investigation was conducted (by the OCF insurance company). As soon as we get the final cost on the damage we can proceed to the next step.”
As was reported in the February 5 edition of The Expositor, a pipe burst within the facility on January 25, causing extensive damage to the centre’s flooring and materials throughout the building in its offices, studio, museum and gift shop.
Mr. Hare pointed out the flooring is ruined throughout the building and will have to be replaced.
“The next step in the process is to tender who is going to do the installation of materials,” said Mr. Hare.
“We are still closed to the public, because of safety reasons,” said Mr. Hare. “And for any major events we were going to hold here, they are going to be held in the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre in Little Current.”
