Northeast Town celebrates its volunteer contributions

LITTLE CURRENT—Small rural municipalities depend a great deal on their volunteer organizations, and the volunteers therein, to improve the quality of life in their communities. The Northeast Town’s Volunteer Appreciation Night Wine and Cheese was one of the best attended in recent years, despite the Little Current Lions Club being somewhat distracted with their Catch the Ace draw and a number of other volunteer organization meetings taking place at the same time.

Music was provided by the incomparable piano styling of Honora Bay’s Maurice Labelle and further entertainment was provided by Honora Bay comedian and retired teacher Charles Adams. While providing the official words of thanks on behalf of the town, Mayor Al MacNevin joked that he had to keep his own comedy routine under wraps.

Mayor MacNevin put his jocular nature aside to deliver heartfelt words of gratitude to the more than 60 volunteers attending the event.

The musical stylings of Maurice Labelle provided a wonderful backdrop to the event.

While a number of town councillors joined the volunteers at tables, Councillor Melissa Peters could be found clearing tables, setting out finger foods and generally performing her own volunteer work at the event, even though she could easily have sat at a number of tables in the room as a community volunteer in her own right.

The door prize for the evening, a lounger presented by Mayor MacNevin, was won by none other than Pastor Paul Allard of the Little Current United Church.
