None of the candidates impress

To the Expositor:

I was watching the debates and it does not sound too promising because whoever wins for office, all they will do again is fight in the legislature and blame who did what before and nothing will get done again.

As usual, all the promises will just become history and removing or lowering the HST on hydro bills is not good enough. They have to lower the hydro rates and delivery altogether in order to make progress. Then they have to cap hydro rates and delivery because it’s going to go up 40 percent. How do they expect citizens to survive this if they allow this to happen? Even with job creations it’s not going to work. And Tim Hudak’s plan is going to kill the government programs if he cuts the public sector jobs, especially on social programs.

As for minimum wage, it’s going to be even harder for people who are living on a fixed income. At minimum wage, somebody would be making $2,000 a month and that’s before deductions. So your take-home pay would be around $1,500 a month. Then there are the household expenses you have to look at. And if you have a car your expenses will go up, and then there is the grocery bill. So what have you got left for spending? Not too much, I would have to say, unless you’re using credit cards (but that’s not the answer because of those interest rates you’re paying more).

I would definitely say no to fracking on Manitoulin. This is just an Island and only an idiot would do that, like they did with those worthless windmills, and we have no benefits from them. Our hydro bills are still going up. Those who agree to fracking know nothing. How much damage it would do to the environment and our water for sure would get contaminated. Coming in to Little Current the skyline used to be beautiful but with those windmills it looks ugly now.

These candidates do not do their homework before running for office. They make all kinds of promises and do not know what kind of mess the former government is leaving behind. Then they find out they cannot keep their promises and that’s another problem. They have too much confidence because a person has to be very careful with their confidence. Too much confidence may bring you down.
