In loving memory of Nicholas Debassige, a resident of M’Chigeeng, who passed away at M’Chigeeng on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the age of 58 years. He was the son of the late Vincent and Margaret Debassige. In Nick’s earlier years, he had worked as a mechanic in Toronto, returning home about 15 years ago to convalesce. In high school, Nick enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He also enjoyed working in the garden, growing flowers and vegetables. He also liked to fish, work in the family sugar shack and bush, drive the tractor and work on the family farm. His favourite pastime was playing cards. Nicholas was very close to his nieces and nephews when they were young, entertaining them and story telling. Nick was predeceased by his partner and friend Alice Panamick in 2005. Loved brother of Marjorie Webkemigad of Wikwemikong, Gregory Debassige of M’Chigeeng, Norma Debassige (friend Charlie) of M’Chigeeng, Lyla Kinoshameg (Ray) of Kingston, Joanne Debassige (Amedeo) of Gatineau, Stanley Debassige of M’Chigeeng and Doris Debassige of Sudbury. Predeceased by sister Ina Panamick and brothers Alfred, Philip and Patrick. Nick is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends called at Saswaahns Spiritual Centre, M’Chigeeng after 1 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. The funeral mass to celebrate Nicholas’ life was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 10 am with Fr. Jim Kelly as celebrant.
