To the Expositor:
I’m not too excited about the film being made, the one written about in The Expositor on January 18 ‘Documentary film to look at 1970 car crash,’ page 3. It was upsetting to read in that week’s paper.
As we who came through this even it just brings back too many memories.
I am the aunt of Hugh and Paul Morrison, who died in the accident. Hugh had not lived in Manitowaning for many years, they were living in Owen Sound. When their mother died, my husband and I took Hugh and his baby sister Shelley to raise. Hugh had gone up to spend Easter week with his brothers who were living with my parents then in Manitowaning. We had gone up Good Friday for the weekend, and to bring Hugh back.
He was in Grade 13 at the Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute, a very popular athlete, so that a busload of teachers and students went up for the funeral, and my husband Bob and I were presented with the boys? athletic society trophy with his name on it. I gave it to Shelley and other things I felt she should have.
I’m going to get in touch with one of his teachers. He might have comments to make.
It was a horrible night I can tell you, but I was thankful we were there to help Mum and Dad cope.
I really feel strongly that the Harasym mother and daughter filmmakers should let these wonderful young people rest in peace. I may be wrong in my thoughts, but it is upsetting.
Yours sincerely,
Margaret (Morrison) Hurley
