Claire’s Top 5

1. ‘The Apartment’ by Danielle Steel

2. ‘NYPD Red4’ by James Patterson

3. ‘Brotherhood In Death’ by J.D. Robb

4. ‘Scarecrow Returns’ by Matthew Reilly

5. ‘His Whole Life’ by Elizabeth Hay

‘The Apartment’ by Danielle Steel – “Four young women at turning points in their lives come together by chance in the heart of New York City.  This vibrant, tender, and moving tale pulses with the excitement of New York City as it explores twists of fate, and the way that sometimes, in special places, friends can be the family we need most.” Delacorte Press. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it for a nice light read.

‘NYPD Red4’ by James Patterson – James Patterson is one of my favourite authors and he never seems to disappoint his readers. This story takes place with a special task force called NYPD Red. They are hired to protect the rich and famous in New York City and beyond. There are two investigators, Detective Zach Jordan and his partner, Kylie MacDonald, who work hard to solve their assigned cases. “Zach and Kylie are soon in hot pursuit of a cold-blooded killer with everything to lose, and millions to gain if he can just shake the detectives on his trail. With the city on edge, the mayor out of patience, and the flames of their personal relationship threatening to reignite and ruin everything, Zach and Kylie are facing down their worst fears-and their worst enemy yet.” – Little, Brown and Company (publishers). A good read.

‘Brotherhood in Death’ by J. D. Robb – She has written over 42 books with main characters Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke and I have read and enjoyed every one of them. It’s the kind of book you can’t put down when you’re reading it, but then when its finished you wish you hadn’t read it so fast. I become so immersed in J.D. Robb’s books that I can forget about the dust that’s lurking in the corners of my house and starting supper becomes a real chore because I have to finish the chapter. If you want to read a series that you just can’t put down try the first book, ‘Naked in Death,’ which of course you can find at your library!

‘Scarecrow Returns’ by Matthew Reilly – “Deep in the Arctic, a long-forgotten Soviet military base enshrouds a weapon of unimaginably destructive force – a Cold War doomsday device with the power to obliterate the planet.” – Simon & Schuster (publisher). I have read several of Reilly’s books and have enjoyed them. Full of excitement and terrorist groups, it’s another one you cannot always put down. A good read.

‘His Whole Life’ by Elizabeth Hay – This is a story of what it is like to grow up in a small Canadian town. A small boy with a Canadian mother and a father who is an American moves from New York City to a small town in eastern Ontario. This is a coming of age story and describes how family members can hurt each other, some memories of which can never be forgotten. It’s a story about a bond that occurs between a mother and a son. A very moving story that many will enjoy.

‘Virtual Reality’ has come to your Mindemoya library. Come in and walk through Jurassic Park and see the dinosaurs (be careful you don’t get eaten!) or ride a roller coaster (be careful you don’t scream!) or try travelling through space. Come in and try it out. It’s another fun thing and an interesting experience to try at your library.

We will have a table again this summer at the Mindemoya Farmers’ Market selling books on Saturdays. If you are willing to volunteer to man the table one Saturday morning please phone the library 705 377-5334 or drop in and put your name on the sheet. It will be appreciated. Also we will once again have a “Children’s Fun Time” on Tuesday mornings from 11 am to 12 noon and we need volunteers for this also.

Remember your library in Mindemoya is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Thursdays from 1 to 8 pm. Providence Bay library hours are Tuesdays 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Wednesdays from 1 to 3:30 pm and Fridays from 1 to 4:30 pm.

See you at your library!
