‘Island of a Thousand Mirrors’ by Naymoi Munaweera – Before violence tore apart the tapestry of Sri Lanka and turned its pristine beaches red there were two families; two young women with hopes for the future and one chance encounter that led to the terrible heritage they must reckon with for years to come. A tender, lovely and devastating story of a beautiful land during its most difficult moments.
‘Ruth’s Journey’ by Donald McCaig – Before Tara, before Scarlett and Rhett, before the war that would divide a nation, before ‘Gone With The Wind’ there was Ruth. Ruth is the beloved Mammy from the novel by Margaret Mitchell ‘Gone With The Wind.’ This is her story that starts on Saint-Domingue, a French colony that is consumed by the flames of revolution and ends on an Up-country cotton plantation called Tara. This novel of fortitude, heartbreak and indomitable will is a tale that stands on its own, but that also sheds a welcome new light on the unforgettable classic, ‘Gone With the Wind.’
‘Ghost Wanted’ by Carolyn Hart- A Bailey Ruth novel. What seems at first to gumshoe Bailey Ruth Raeburn like simple vandalism won’t be an open-and-shut case. Something isn’t adding up and Bailey must race against the clock to find the truth because justice seems to be well overdue and it will take more than death to stop Bailey.
‘The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry’ by Gabrielle Zevln – An irresistible novel about second chances and finding room for all the books—and all the love—that transform our lives. A. J. Flkry’s life is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. His is an unforgettable tale of transformation and second chances, an irresistible affirmation of why we read and why we love.
‘An Irish Doctor in Peace and at War’ by Patrick Taylor- Charming, full of Irish wit and wisdom…and of course, all the village characters we’ve come to love. For those just discovering the Irish doctor, this book can stand on its own but will leave you wanting to read more books about the Irish country doctor. Shifting between two very different eras, Patrick Taylor’s latest Irish Country novel reveals more about O’Reilly’s tumultuous past, even as Ballbucklebo faces the future In its own singular fashion.

Recognition of the Month: Jerry Carlisle – Jerry has been our assistant librarian here at the Mindemoya library since 2005. She is always ready to help patrons find a good book and cares about people. Outside of the library she bakes delicious pies and cookies and every year during the holiday season she visits with her daughter and they bake their famous Christmas cakes that we all hope will be shared at the library. She also enjoys gardening and knitting. She is a proud grandmother and great grandmother and if asked will talk about her newest great grandson. She is certainly an asset to our library.
Remember at your library—we have lots of books, talking books and large print. We have added to our young adult section and have many new books by popular authors such as P.C. Cast and Kelley Armstrong. Lots of DVDs and VHS movies also. We also have a fax machine, photocopier and a laminator.
Our newest addition at the Mindemoya library is a lovely selection of paintings from local artists that are on display for you to enjoy and purchase if you like. A special thanks at this time to Leslie Morin, Moira Elsley, Ellen Lewis and Linda Williamson for graciously allowing your library to display your attractive works of art.
