BIRCH ISLAND—According to results released by electoral office OneFeather, former police chief of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service Rodney Nahwegahbow was elected chief of Whitefish River First Nation in the February 21 band election with 197 votes. Other candidate for chief results were Anastasia (Stacy) Cywink, 16; Sandy Jacko, 45; Murray McGregor, 78; David Shawanda, 54; with three spoiled ballots.
Elected to seats at the council table are: Talon Chin-McGregor, 87 votes; Brain A. McGregor (inc), 78; Jeffrey McGregor, 100; Leslie McGregor, 85; Leona Nawegahbow, (inc), 74; Esther Osche (inc), 110; and Richard Shawanda, 92.
