New Central Manitoulin recreation centre to be investigated

MINDEMOYA—Central Manitoulin council took the first step toward having a committee consisting of council and members of the community charged with looking at the feasibility of a new recreation complex for the municipality.

At a meeting last week, council considered a recommendation/motion by its property committee, “that we recommend that council strike a committee of council and community stakeholders to explore the feasibility of a new recreation complex.”

“Will this be taken back to the property committee?” asked Councillor Derek Stephens. “Would council like to say which council representatives will be on the committee? There was talk that (councillor) Angela (Johnston) would be willing to be on the committee—which would be good.”

Councillor Dale Scott pointed out, “Angela already has indicated her interest (in being on the committee). I agree, she would be good on the committee. I’d be willing to be on the committee if more support is needed.”

Mayor Richard Stephens noted the motion being passed by council, “is just to get this off the ground, and we will fill in all the details as to who will be on the committee, and more, at a later date.”
