LITTLE CURRENT—It was a near-perfect day for a soccer camp as the inaugural event took place on the soccer fields at Low Island Park in Little Current. The camp was hosted by NEMI Soccer, in partnership with The Town of NEMI, on August 21-25 and proved well attended.
“There were many seasoned coaches who offered their time to help facilitate a full week of programming,” noted Michelle Anderson, adding that the camp ran from 9 am to 4 pm and hosted over 50 athletes from all over the Island.
In addition to the soccer camp, the Town of NEMI provided games, crafts and activities each day.
“Bud and Pierette from Manitoulin Pickleball put on an amazing pickleball clinic for the kids,” said Ms. Anderson. “This camp was coming off the heels of a very successful (sold out) youth pickleball program that Bud and Pierette hosted in partnership with the Town of NEMI for six Mondays throughout the summer.”
“NEMI Soccer was very fortunate to have Randy and Brook Ragan leading the soccer programming for the week,” said Ms. Anderson. “Offering a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience, the kids developed their soccer skills by leaps and bounds over the course of the camp.”
Ms. Anderson went on to note that the week “would not have been possible without the many student volunteers, as well as our adult volunteers Crystal Morra and Steve Fessenden.”
The great news is that NEMI Soccer will return in the spring. To find out more those interested are advised to contact NEMI Soccer by email at nemisoccer@gmail.com or contact them through Facebook at Facebook.com/NEMIsoccer.
