LITTLE CURRENT—The NEMI Public Library has a variety of summer programs available for everyone in the community.
New this year is the Summer Reading Program for kids five to 17-years-old.
“Debbie at the Assignack Public Library was doing a similar program and I thought it would be a great idea for Little Current as well,” said NEMI Librarian Karen Gallo of the Summer Reading Program. “For every book borrowed, you get a ballot and can enter your name in a draw to win $50. Books by a Canadian author or with Canadian content get the individual an extra ballot.”
Participants must have or sign up for a library card and sign up for the program by today, Wednesday, July 19.
“We are asking that youth let us know how they like the books when they return them and are posting their comments on the NEMI Public Library Facebook page,” added Ms. Gallo.
Also for kids this summer, there will be a science day at the library with Science North on Friday, August 11 from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be two programs, building and body business.
“The library received a grant from the Ontario government for seniors programming which will be starting on Thursday, August 3,” said Ms. Gallo. “We will have programs on gardening, Photoshop, yoga and technology.”
Gardening with Jean Narazanski will be held Thursday, August 3, 10 and 17 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Photoshop with Lamar Haytt will be on Tuesday, August 8, 15, 22, 29 and September 5 from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. Chair yoga with Lise Baronet will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 16, 23, 30 and September 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
Ms. Gallo said there will be senior programs running at the library until February 2018.
“We have a number of seniors’ programs that run all year long including the creation station (bring your own supplies and an art project to work on) on Tuesdays from 10 am to 1 pm, bridge on Wednesday from 1 to 4 pm, knitting on Thursdays from 10 am to 12 pm (bring your own project to work on) and senior games on Fridays from 1:30 to 4 pm,” said Ms. Gallo.
As well, there will be a new art show starting at the end of July.
