Mustang boys see a busy week of hockey ahead

Currently sitting 2 and 2 in league play

MANITOULIN—The Manitoulin Secondary School Mustangs boys’ hockey team played the Espanola Spartans on Little Current ice on Friday night, winning by a score of 6 to 5.

“The boys played well enough to win but made too many mistakes for my liking,” admits Mustangs coach Steve Doane. “We will continue to work on puck management this week. We also took a few too many penalties.”

The coach noted the good crowd on hand for the hometown game. “It was fairly entertaining,” he added, “with lots of goals and end to end action.”

The Mustangs are currently sitting at 2 and 2 in league play with a busy two weeks leading up to Christmas.

The ‘Stangs Monday night game against Lockerby was stabled due to a highway closure and inclement weather and moved to next Tuesday, December 19.

The Mustang boys are back in action this Thursday, December 14 vs St. Ben’s, 6:30 pm at Countryside Arena, and again on Friday, December 15 when they take on Lively at 7 pm back in Little Current.

The boys in black and gold head back to Sudbury on Monday, December 18 to play Lo Ellen at 3 pm at Countryside Arena, then the next day, on Tuesday, December 19, versus Lockerby at 3:30 pm for their makeup game at Cambrian Arena and again on Thursday, December 21 when they play L’Horizon at 1:30 pm in Little Current. The outcome of these games will determine at what level the Mustangs will play come January, in the A or B division.

The Mustangs will then take a much-needed Christmas break.
