Fail to Comply, Assault Police, Utter Threats
On November 16, 2017 at approximately 9:34 am, Espanola Police received a complaint from a woman who advised that her son had been repeatedly calling her and harassing her, as well as threatening her while demanding her assistance with his disabled vehicle. Officers attended the Esso gas station on Highway 17 and located the involved male, and he was arrested. The male was taken to the Espanola Police station, where he attempted to strike one of the officers with his knee. The male also threatened both of the officers while in police custody. Further investigation revealed that the male had also attended his mother’s residence on November 14th, and he was currently on bail with a condition not to attend her residence.
As a result of this investigation, a 33 year old Espanola man was charged with three counts of Uttering Threats, as well as one count of Assault Police and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Utter Threats
On October 23, 2017, Espanola Police were called to attend Espanola High School regarding a complaint of an assault. Officers attended and the investigation determined that the two female victims had been assaulted by two other females while they were on lunch break and away from the high school. The suspects struck the females, and one of the suspects had also placed one of the victims in a choke hold during the assault.
As a result of the investigation, the 16 and 17 year old females from Sagamok were arrested and charged with Assault and Choking. They will appear in Espanola Youth Court on December 11, 2017.
Drive Under Suspension
On October 30, 2017 at approximately 5:20 pm, an Espanola Police Officer was conducting traffic enforcement duties and stopped a motor vehicle for investigation. During the investigation it was determined that the driver was currently suspended from driving, as was the passenger in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 37 year old Sudbury man was charged with Driving While Under Suspension. He will appear in Espanola Court on December 14, 2017.
Fail to Comply with Undertaking
On October 23, 2017, Espanola Police were called to attend the area of Avery Drive and Wilson Street regarding a complaint of a disturbance between two males and a female. Officers attended and located a male known to police to be on an undertaking with a condition not to communicate with the female involved, as well as a condition that he not consume alcohol. As the officers spoke with the male they observed that he was also under the influence of alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, a 28 year old Espanola man was arrested and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with Undertaking. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Fail to Stop for School Bus
On November 3, 2017 at approximately 3:17 pm, Espanola Police received a complaint from a school bus driver regarding a vehicle that had failed to stop for the school bus, as it was stopped on Queensway Avenue, with its lights flashing and stop arm out to allow children off the bus. The bus driver provided a vehicle description and the licence plate, and an officer immediately attended the area and located the vehicle involved driving on Centre Street.
As a result of the investigation, a 21 year old male from Elliot Lake was charged with Failing to Stop for School Bus, which carries a $490 fine and 6 demerit points.
Impaired Driving
On October 27, 2017 at approximately 11:00 pm, officers with the Espanola Police Service were on patrol in the area of Secord and Barrie Streets, and observed a motor vehicle driving erratically. The officers followed the vehicle and observed several unusual driving actions, and conducted a traffic stop to investigate the sobriety of the driver. Upon speaking with the driver the officers observed obvious signs of impairment, and he was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Breath samples were obtained and determined that the driver’s blood alcohol was three times the legal limit of 80 mg.
As a result of the investigation, a 52 year old Espanola man was charged with Impaired Operation and Over 80 mg. He will appear in Espanola Court on December 11, 2017.
Impaired Driving
On November 25, 2017 at approximately 11:30 pm, officers with the Espanola Police Service were at a local hall investigating a disturbance complaint, and during the investigation spoke with a female who was sitting in a vehicle that was observed to be running. While the officers were speaking with the female they observed obvious signs of alcohol consumption, and upon obtaining a breath sample in the roadside screening device it was determined that her blood alcohol was in excess of the legal limit of 80 mg. The female was arrested and taken to the police station where further breath samples were obtained and confirmed that her blood alcohol was in excess of the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 38 year old Webbwood woman was charged with Over 80 mg. She will appear in Espanola Court on January 8, 2017.
Public Intoxication
On November 10, 2017 at approximately 2:43 am, Espanola Police received a 911 call from a distraught female who reported that there was an unknown male banging on her window, and he had then entered her vehicle. Officers attended within minutes, and located the suspect male still inside the complainant’s vehicle. Investigation revealed that the male was extremely intoxicated, and was attempting to return to his own residence which was a few houses down the street from the complainant’s residence. After he was unable to gain entry to the residence, he had entered the vehicle in an attempt to get warm as the temperatures were well below zero that evening.
Due to his inability to properly care for himself, the 51 year old Espanola man was arrested for the offence of Being Intoxicated in a Public Place and was held in police custody until sober. He was issued a $65 fine under the Liquor Licence Act.
Utter Threats
On October 26, 2017, an Espanola Police Officer was on patrol and observed a motor vehicle travelling on Centre Street that was believed to be in poor mechanical condition. The officer had previously spoken with the vehicle driver regarding the condition of the vehicle, and had afforded the driver the opportunity to have repairs made to the vehicle to ensure it was mechanically fit for the road. The officer stopped the vehicle for investigation, and determined that no repairs had been made to the vehicle and it remained in poor mechanical condition.
As a result of the investigation, a 34 year old Massey woman was charged with Operating an Unsafe Vehicle. She will appear in Espanola Court on December 14, 2017.
Utter Threats
On October 23, 2017, Espanola Police were called to attend a residence on Albert Street regarding a complaint of a male uttering threats toward a child. Officers attended the residence and obtained information that a male at the residence had uttered a threat toward his 4 year old step-son. The male then left the residence on foot and was located a short time later by police.
As a result of the investigation, a 31 year old Espanola man was arrested and charged with Utter Threats. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
