MTO has Island roadwork scheduled for this summer

MANITOULIN—A number of Ministry of Transportation (MTO) roadwork projects are on the board for Manitoulin Island over the coming construction season. Notably, no movement is currently slated for the swing bridge at Little Current.

“The MTO is doing design work for culvert rehabilitation south of Little Current,” said MTO Senior Media Relations Officer Tanya Blazina. “MTO is also reviewing the surface treatment plan on Manitoulin Island, which includes surface treatment work on Highway 540 and 542 to renew and maintain existing surfaces.”

The culvert in question is located at High Falls, north of Manitowaning.

The roadwork will be undertaken south of McLennan’s Creek Lane/Sims Road to the ferry docks at South Baymouth.
