MSS runner qualifies for provincial championships

M’CHIGEENG—A Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs runner finished second in all three of his races at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) championships, qualifying him for the provincials.

“Our team did well at the event,” stated Erin Rose, coach of the MSS team. A total of 23 athletes took part in the  NOSSA championships held at Scollard Hall in North Bay last week.

“James Scott has qualified for the OFSSA (Ontario Federation of Secondary School Association) championships,” said Ms. Rose. She pointed out he has qualified for OFSSAA in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 metre races. He will compete in both the 100 and 1,500 metre races at OFSSA.

“We also had two athletes who placed third in their division, Thomas Hayden in the long jump and Matthew Redmond in the shot-put,” said Ms. Rose.

OFSSA will take place in Windsor, this week.
