MSS presents musical comedy Once Upon a Mattress

M’CHIGEENG—Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) students, staff and volunteers have been preparing since last October for the sure to be a hit musical comedy, ‘Once Upon a Mattress,’ that will hit the stage for three nights this week.

“It’s an amazing, colourful production,” stated Yana Bauer, part of the MSS team that is putting on the production. “Once Upon a Mattress is the retelling of the musical-comedy of the Princess and the Pea.”

The tale follows Princess Winnifred as she competes for the hand of Prince Dauntless whose overbearing mother Queen Agnes has declared that no one in the kingdom can marry until he marries a true princess.

“We have about 70 people in the cast and crew and support staff,” said Ms. Bauer. “It will be an amazing production, probably our best ever. There is a lot of comedy, singing and dancing. It is amazing.”

Ms. Bauer pointed out the three lead roles are going to Jessica Jordison, Brad Sayyae and Mackenzie Gilmore.

Once Upon a Mattress hit the stage last night, Thursday, and will run tonight (Friday) February 12 and Saturday, February 13 with the curtain to rise at 7 pm.
