M’CHIGEENG—The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs boys hockey team have now advanced to the league playoff finals in division two, after having swept Lo-Ellen in their semi-final series.
“We won the game 9-1 and eliminated Lo-Ellen,” said MSS Coach Steve Doane after game two of the series this past Tuesday in Little Current.
The Mustangs had won the opening game of the best two out of three series, 10-1 in Sudbury on February 15.
The Mustangs will now face St. Benedict’s in the division two final series. St. Benedict’s defeated Lively in their semi-final series.
“St. Ben’s is going to be a real challenge, they have a few really fast skating players and they have a really good goalie,” said Mr. Doane. “We had two really good games with them this year (with St. Ben’s winning an early season game 5-1, but the two teams tying their second game 4-4).”
St. Benedict’s has home advantage in the finals, which will also be a best two out of three series. The first game could be as early as Thursday in Little Current at 4:30 pm, although Mr. Doane is hopeful the opening game will take place in Sudbury next Monday, and game two could be in Little Current on March 3.
