Welcome back! Everyone at MSS is starting to feel the pressure with exams just around the corner. Despite the stress, there is still a whole bunch of stuff going on at MSS. Along with studying there is still time for school-wide feasts and fun extracurriculars. Let’s see what was going on at MSS this past week.
Last weekend (January 7-8) the senior girls’ volleyball team travelled to Elliot Lake for an invitational tournament. Not only did the girls displace the first ranked team, they also won the tournament! The tournament concluded in a fast, fun, and close game won by MSS. Huge congratulations to the girls!
On Wednesday, January 11 MSS hosted a feast to celebrate Gimaah Giizhigad. Gimaah Giizhigad is traditionally an Anishinaabe celebration. This holiday celebrates new babies born throughout the year. Feasts are also held to recognize potential future leaders. MSS set up tables in the common room where staff volunteers served food like scone dogs, sausage, potatoes, cooked vegetables and a variety of desserts. The food was delicious and much appreciated by the student body. A big thank you goes out to the organizers of this event and the staff who made it all possible.
Last Wednesday, senior students went on a trip to Cambrian and Canadore college to explore post-secondary opportunities! They were able to look at education plans for the trades, the arts and other study programs. Students visited places like auto-shops, movie sets, and many more! This opportunity was both a fun and educational experience and will hopefully help students discover what they want to pursue after high school.
The robotics team met this Saturday, January 15 from 10 am to 2 pm for a very productive meeting. The team has started building this season’s robot for the FIRST regional competitions. The team will be traveling to McMaster university and North Bay in a couple months to compete. The team also started working on their submissions for awards. Keep up the great work Manitoulin Metal!
That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
