The school year may be winding down, but there are lots of activities still going on for the Mustangs.
SHARE/Go Green ran their e-waste drive on Saturday, June 16. The project was to make sure that old electronics get recycled and don’t end up in landfills. As well as collecting electronics, there was a clothing collection as well to raise money for the Cerebral Palsy foundation.
There is a new campaign that SHARE/Go Green has signed up for, called Givalry.ca. This website sells organic, zero waste, non toxic, and vegan products. The organization is female founded, and donates 25 percent of each purchase to the SHARE group. In order to support our school, just type in Manitoulin Secondary School when you first open the site. The money raised from this campaign will go towards making MSS more eco-friendly: buying trees, more gardens, plants for the courtyard, and other tools.
SHARE is having their end of year potluck on Wednesday, June 20. This year, the group has raised thousands of dollars through their fundraising, building a school in Nicaragua and beginning to raise money for a school in Tanzania via the Brick by Brick campaign.
The four candidates for the Valedictorian speeches presented to their classmates on Monday, June 11: Jacob Maxwell, Kendra Jordison, Alicia Williamson and James Scott. The candidates spoke about why they should be voted the Valedictorian, who gets to speak at the graduation ceremony. After four well-presented speeches, the Grade 12s voted and waited for the results. Ms. Ferguson announced right before lunch that James Scott won the Valedictorian vote and he was congratulated by the graduates.
The current Students’ Council is preparing to pass on their responsibilities onto the next generation. The speeches for the 2018- 2019 Students’ Council Election are on Wednesday, June 20. There are many students running for the various positions: Co-Prime Ministers, Secretary, Treasurer, Special Events Coordinator, Spirit Rep., Junior Rep., Public Relations, AV Technician, and Fundraising Rep..
After several months of Spies sneaking around MSS, the game has finally ended. Max Cooper won the SpyMaster title, along with a $300 gift card to Best Buy. Max also won last year, meaning he has become the ultimate SpyMaster.
The year is coming to a close, but one last burst of activities will keep the Mustangs’ energy up. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
