There is just over one week until Halloween! This is such a ghostly time of year! A Halloween joke for you:

On October 17, a group of students from MSS hopped on a bus to Stratford for a SHSM and music trip! On this three-day trip, students participated in different workshops such as stage combat and saw the plays ‘Billy Elliot,’ ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ ‘The Crucible,’ ‘The Neverending Story’ and then travelled to Toronto to see the musical ‘The Band’s Visit.’ The students arrived back at MSS late Sunday night.
Tryouts for the boys’ hockey team are well underway. Participants include Carter Abotossaway, Lukas Abotossaway, Trent Bell, Liam Bridgeman, Maverick Bushey, Jared Cortes, Shannan Debassige, Owen Duncanson, Gabe Hare, Noah Hare, Cord Hughson, Riley Lockyer, Ben Marshall, Carter Moggy, Nyron Panamick, Boston Thibault, Pierre Debassige, Andrew Hughson, Aaron Leeson and Jacob Wilson.
The first MSS boys’ exhibition hockey game of the season took place on Thursday, October 17 at 4 pm against Espanola High School. The boys’ next game is an away game that will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 24, against Notre-Dame. The final roster will be determined before the start of the regular season.
Representatives from the University of Guelph and Cambrian College were at MSS on October 17. A representative from Nipissing University was at the school the following day, October 18.
On Friday, October 18, there was a meeting in room F2 for anyone interested in participating on either the boys or girls curling teams this coming season.
Picture retakes will take place on Monday, October 28 at MSS. Students that did not have the opportunity to get their pictures taken for their student card or would like them retaken will have the chance to do so.
On Friday, October 25 and on Saturday, October 26, the musical theater class is hosting a dinner fundraiser. The dinner is called ‘Café Murder: Mystery Dinner Theatre’ where participants question suspects and try to solve the mystery. All funds raised support the Manitoulin Secondary School Musical Theatre program’s 2020 production. Dinner begins at 6:30 pm each evening at MSS. The meal includes lasagna with sides, drinks, and dessert, as well as laughter, mayhem, and murder. Cost is $25 per person. Admission by reservation only. ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ will be the 2020 MSS musical. Open auditions for any interested elementary school students will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 11 am to 12 noon at MSS. Auditions for secondary school students will be held the week of November 4.
Share/Go Green is holding a battery drive from October 22 to 25 at MSS. SHARE/Go Green is inviting community members to drop off their old household non-reusable batteries for this event. The battery drive is a part of the Zinc Saves Lives fundraiser. The value of the zinc in the batteries that are recycled will be donated to the Me to We Foundation for sustainable projects in the developing world. Last year, over 1,200 batteries were collected and 7,200 lives were saved.
