MSS Kids in the Halls

It is starting to feel a lot more like fall outside, or maybe it is the fact that two weeks of school have already disappeared and that summertime feeling is long gone. A fall joke for you:

Why did the tree worry that he would never get his leaves back after autumn? He didn’t be-leaf in himself!

Thursday, September 12 was stand up against bullying day. Students from across the Rainbow District School Board (RDSB) wore pink as part of the 12th annual “Stand up Against Bullying Day.”

Robotics had its first meeting on Friday, September 13. New and returning members are welcome! If you are interested in programming, marketing, construction, driving or business, join Manitoulin Metal! They would be happy to have you as part of their team.

The Rainbow District School Board (RDSB) is challenging staff and students in the district to be part of the change in support of “Pollution Prevention Week” from Monday, September 16 to Friday, September 20. Staff and students in the RDSB will be asked to avoid using plastic and single-use materials in their lunches and classroom activities.

Starting yesterday, Tuesday, September 17, a program entitled “Art-based Mindfulness Group for Parents” started up. This 10-week program is offered at MSS from 6 to 7:30 pm for parents of students who would like to learn how to coach their children in becoming more mindful of recognizing their strengths and improving their self-awareness. Students interested in making a difference locally and globally will be travelling to Toronto to participate in ‘WE Day’ tomorrow, Thursday, September 19. ‘WE Day’ is an unparalleled celebration of young people committed to making a difference. ‘WE Day’ is a day full of performances by celebrities and motivational speakers, meant to reward and inspire young leaders and world changers.

Another opportunity for students to make a difference will be held on Thursday, October 10 at a Headstrong meeting at Collège Boréal in Sudbury. Headstrong is an anti-stigma initiative created by Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) for youth aged 12-18. Headstrong was designed to inspire students to be brave, reach out and speak up about mental health. 

Just a reminder that MSS is a scent sensitive environment. Scent products such as perfume, cologne, body spray, hair products, etc. should not be used or brought to school. Serious medical conditions can be triggered by scents. 

Joke of the week: Why did the scarecrow win the Nobel Prize? Because he was out-standing in his field.
