MSS Kids in the Halls

April has finally arrived! Along with a few signs of spring that are starting to appear, it was April Fools’ Day! I hope everyone managed to get through the day without being tricked to badly. What hopefully is not a trick to our eyes is that the white stuff we have had for the last five months is slowly disappearing and may finally be changing into green grass and flowers! Wouldn’t that be exciting?

From Thursday, March 28 to Sunday, March 31, SHSM (Specialist High School Major) and music students travelled to Toronto for their Music Trip! Students saw the musical ‘Come From Away,’ a ballet, participated in a workshop related to the arts, toured the University of Toronto music department, played laser tag, visited Ridley Aquarium, the CN tower, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and more! Everyone had a blast on the trip and a big “thank you” to everyone that made it possible! That includes Mr. Theijsmeijer for all the planning, Melody Hore for arranging the dinner fundraiser, Ms. Renee Patterson and Mr. Arik Theijsmeijer for accompanying the students on the trip, and most importantly, each and every parent that helped their kids pack and pay for the trip! We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you!

The MSS Gymnastics Team travelled to Napanee from April 2-3 for an invitational meet. The gymnasts participated in floor, uneven bars, vault and beam. The team includes Mackenzie Cortes, Mary Hore, Sophie Hietkamp, Mackensie Graham, Summer Beaudin, Anna Migwans, Amber Wahl, Zoe Smith and Morgan Wall-Varey, as well as coaches Miss Ferguson and Mrs. Theijsmeijer! Great job, Mustangs!

A gymnastics joke for you: What do you get if you cross a fruit and an acrobat? An apple turnover!

Monday, April 8 is a P.D. Day for students. Another day off! Yay!

Wednesday, May 1 is the ‘Joan Mantle Spring Music Concert’ featuring the MSS Vocal Group, Junior Band, Senior Band and elementary school performers. Mark the date on your calendar!

SHARE/Go Green has been very busy lately planning for the spring season! They have been planning everything from spring clean ups to walks for change. SHARE/Go Green is planning a ‘Walk for Water’ that will start in Meldrum Bay and end at MSS in M’Chigeeng. MSS students will have the chance to sign up to participate in the May ‘Walk for Water.’ More details to follow!

Joke of the week: Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire. Much to their relief she smiled and said, “Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper.” Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: “First Question: Which tire was flat?”

Upcoming events include, badminton, music concert, a P.D. Day and more!

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!
