MSS Kids in the Halls

Welcome back, Mustangs! I hope everyone had a great holiday! It’s a new year which means New Year’s resolutions! Who made resolutions and who has already given up on them? If you haven’t given up yet, good for you!

A joke for you: The list of New Year’s resolutions; a list that the dog can actually chew up.

MSS was full of excitement before the break with celebrations, special events and sports.

On Tuesday, December 18, both the junior and senior boys’ basketball teams were in action in the MSS gym. Both teams played very well, but lost 51-13 and 34-64 respectively. Good job, boys!

On Wednesday, December 19, MSS hosted a senior girls’ volleyball tournament. The junior girls were in a tournament in Wiikwemikoong. Both the senior and junior girls played very well! Keep it up, girls!

On Thursday, December 20, the 49th Annual Awards Night was held at MSS. Over $49,000 was awarded to MSS graduates. All the graduates appreciated each and every bursary and are very thankful to all the individuals and businesses that so generously contributed to their future studies.

The 12 days of Christmas finished with a class to class Christmas caroling from the vocal group on Thursday, December 20 and a half movie day on Friday, December 21. Students enjoyed ‘The Grinch’ in the cafeteria with free popcorn and other treats!

After a two week holiday, staff and students have returned to school preparing to finish up the first semester with final projects and starting to get ready for exams. The end of semester may be in sight but that didn’t stop everyone from bustling around the halls to find friends and share stories about the holidays. Getting back into a normal school routine may take a few days as students try to get back into the habit of early mornings.

On Monday, January 7, the boys hockey team played against Lasalle. On Friday, January 11, the boys play a home game against Espanola at the NEMI Rec Centre at 7 pm.

On Tuesday, January 8, the girls’ hockey team played against Marymount. The girls have a home game against Espanola tomorrow, Thursday, January 10, in M’Chigeeng at 5 pm. The girls also play next Tuesday, January 15 against St. Benedict.

On Friday, January 11, the first gymnastics practice will be taking place from 3 to 6 pm in the gym.

Joke of the week: A student reported for a final examination which consisted of “yes/no” type questions. The student stared at the questions for five minutes, and then in a fit of inspiration took a coin out of their pocket and started tossing the coin and marking the answer sheet, “Yes” for heads and “No” for tails. Within half-an-hour the student has completed the exam. But during the last few minutes, the student is seen desperately throwing the coin, muttering and sweating. The moderator, alarmed, approached the student and said, “What is going on?” The student replied, “I finished the exam in half-an-hour. But now I’m trying to recheck my answers.”

Upcoming events include, basketball and volleyball games, and exams!

Until the next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
