Welcome back to Kids in the Hall! The school year is quickly wrapping up with exams just around the corner. It is both a stressful and exciting time as students prepare for both the final days of the school year and the first days of summer vacation. But just because there are exams doesn’t mean there isn’t anything fun to do! This week, MSS has been abuzz with exciting student activities like a talent show and Student Appreciation Day.
On Friday, June 16 MSS hosted a student talent show. This annual tradition brings everyone together to watch displays put together by students. The talent show showcased the remarkable abilities of students. From musical performances to dance routines, magic tricks and comedy acts, the show was an example of the creativity and passion of our student body. All of this took place within the span of third period as a student “buy-out.” This means that students can buy tickets to watch during their classes and help fundraise for the music department.
That same day was Student Appreciation Day. During the fourth period the fire alarm was pulled to bring all the students out of the building where a plethora of activities were waiting for them. This special occasion was dedicated to recognizing the talents, achievements and contributions of our students during this stressful time of year. Organizations like the Mnaamodzawin Health Services and Public Health came together to help celebrate with students, setting up educational booths for students to interact with. Along with the booths there were multiple student-run activities. The Rainbow Rights club set up tables where students could get their nails painted. The Student Council handed out freezies, painted students’ faces, and put together a scavenger hunt. Lastly, the Athletics Association hosted school-wide Capture The Flag along with many small field sports like Bean Bag Toss. Overall, it was a great way to honour the student body’s hard work and relieve a bit of stress in light of the impending exam season.
New courses have been introduced that students can select for next year’s schedule. Some of these courses include Outdoor Education, The Raven’s Program (for Indigenous culture), Entrepreneurship, and Robotics. These exciting opportunities will be offered to students next year in the form of classes.
Students have received their timetables for the upcoming academic year. Students and their guardians are encouraged to review their timetables and take note of the courses and opportunities that await them.
As we look forward to the future, we also have to say goodbye to two esteemed members of our school community. Ms. McCann and Mr. Corbiere will not be returning to MSS next year. These individuals have made many great contributions to the wellbeing and education of students during their time at MSS and will be missed.
As this academic year comes to an end, let us celebrate the achievements of our students, embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, and express our appreciation for the teachers who have made a lasting impact.
That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
