MSS Kids in the Halls

Hello everyone! It’s been more than a week since March Break! Students and staff are getting back into the swing of things after a relaxing week off. It is now officially spring and I’m sure many of us have our fingers crossed that the warm weather will come sooner rather than later.

To sum up how I feel here’s a spring joke:

What did the tree say to spring? What a re-leaf!

To start off I’d like to give a big congratulations to Jocelyn Kuntsi, a student at MSS. Jocelyn was a recipient of the Loran Award, the highest undergraduate merit award in Canada.

NEMI soccer is looking for student volunteers to help referee and coach junior soccer. Soccer starts May 8 and is hosted on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The badminton team is up and running once again! They have been practicing three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Go, team!

The MSS robotics team had their first competition of the year this season! Nipissing University hosted Manitoulin Metal and 28 other teams at their district event. Team 6865 submitted for many FIRST awards including the Dean’s List Award, a recognition of an outstanding student in the program. The second award Manitoulin Metal applied for was the Impact Award, a recognition of a team that goes above and beyond in what they do. In terms of robots, this year’s team designed a sturdy robot with a large mechanical arm. The team had many successful matches on Saturday, March 25. Matches continued into Sunday, March 26 where the team continued to thrive. By the time the competition ended, the team had received the prestigious Engineering Inspiration Award. This award recognizes impactful actions and taking steps to lead in innovation. This award qualified the team to compete for it again at FIRST Ontario Provincials at McMaster University. The MSS robotics will compete in another district event next weekend from Friday, March 31 to Sunday, April 2. Wishing Manitoulin Metal 6865 the best of luck in upcoming competitions!

That’s all for this week. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Until next time, go Mustangs, go!
