MSS Kids in the Hall: March 26, 2025

This past week has been full of exciting events for students, parents, and staff. Here’s a look at what’s been happening and what’s coming up.

On Thursday, March 20, our school hosted Parent-Teacher Night, an important event for students, parents, and teachers. This night gave parents a chance to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s progress. It was a great way for parents to ask questions and find ways to support their learning at home. These meetings are good to keep track of student’s progress with midterms coming up soon!

On Wednesday, March 19th, Beam Paints visited MSS for a special workshop. Beam Paints, a locally owned company known for making high-quality, eco-friendly paints, taught students about natural paint-making and Indigenous art traditions. Students got the chance to mix their own paints and create artwork using sustainable materials over lunch.

Looking ahead, the annual Stand Up, Speak Out (SUSO) Conference is scheduled for April 24. This event is organized by the student senate, which is made up of leaders from high schools across the Rainbow District School Board. Ten students from each high school are invited to attend and develop their leadership skills. This conference is an excellent chance for students to learn how to make a positive impact in their schools and communities.

The MSS robotics team, Manitoulin Metal, had an amazing competition in North Bay this past weekend. Their robot performed so well that it was chosen as a first-round pick for alliance selections. The team battled hard and made it to the third round of the semi-finals.

Manitoulin Metal also won the second highest ranked award, the Engineering Inspiration Award. This award is given to teams that show dedication to science, technology, and engineering education. Judges look at how well a team recruits students into engineering, how much they engage with the community, and how they promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) beyond the competition season.

Graduating students are getting ready to capture an important moment—grad photos! The dates have been booked, and soon students will have their photos taken to mark the end of their high school journey.

With events like the SUSO Conference and grad photos coming up, there’s a lot to look forward to. Congratulations to all students, teachers, and teams who have worked hard and represented our school so well.

That is all for this week! Until next time, go Mustangs, go!
