There were some exciting opportunities open to students this week, let’s take a look at what MSS got up to!
Auditions for this year’s musical, Mamma Mia! were held this week. This beloved musical, featuring some of ABBA’s top hits, will hit MSS’s stage in February. Auditions were open to everyone regardless of their experience. If singing and dancing is not your thing, there are several other ways to get involved. From being the tech crew behind the stage, to controlling the lights, to managing the actor’s hair and makeup.
The annual MSS university fair was held this Thursday, October 17. Many representatives from post-secondary schools were in attendance including Wilfred-Laurier, Cambrian College, Nipissing University, Algoma University, and others. Students could ask any questions they had about various programs, student life, scholarships and more! This was a great opportunity for students to ask questions, gather materials, and start thinking seriously about their future.
Students enrolled in a university-prep level science class or kinesiology are invited to attend a live-streamed knee surgery presentation at Science North on Tuesday, November 26. The total knee replacement surgery will be shown directly from the operating room. This is an exciting opportunity, especially for students interested in medicine.
Halloween is right around the corner and MSS students know what that means, the Halloween For Hunger event is almost here. Halloween For Hunger is an annual initiative hosted by the SHARE/Go Green club. Every year, there is a non-perishable food collection contest that all homerooms participate in. Whichever room collects the most donations wins a prize at the end of the contest. Additionally, a team of students will be sent out to various communities to ‘trick-or-treat’ for cans. All of the cans and monetary donations collected will be donated to the food bank in Mindemoya and the Living Well Locker program at MSS.
Students were asked to wear blue on Monday, October 21 to kick off Waste Reduction Week!
The day’s topic was educating students about a circular economy, which is about keeping products and materials at their highest utility and value throughout their lifecycle and recirculating them at the end of their life.
