MSS Mustangs are looking forward to next year as they bring this school year to a close. On Wednesday, June 14, the SHARE/Go Green committee had an end of year potluck to celebrate their success and say goodbye to two of their long-time advisors, Madame Desbiens and Ms. Wilson. Over a meal of lasagna, nachos, veggies, pasta salad and more. The group is looking forward to We Day 2017 in Toronto on September 28 and continuing to change the world in 2017-2018. Students who want to attend We Day have to help with one global and one local action that have a positive impact.
Students’ Council Executive elections took place on Monday, June 19. The top position of Co-Prime Ministers was contested by Jacob Maxwell, Josh Noble and April Torkopoulos. The contenders presented 3-5 minute speeches to the student body. Other students were campaigning for the positions of Audio-Visual Technician, Fundraising Rep., Junior Rep., Secretary, Spirit Rep., Special Events Coordinator, Public Relations and Treasurer. Those running for the above positions presented 1-3 minute speeches about why they are the best candidate for the job. The voting took place at lunch on Monday.
Marshall Maciuk and myself were selected by the Rainbow District School Board Student Senate to represent MSS in the board-wide group. The Student Senate is a group of student leaders that are voted in by the previous year’s senate and represent their respective schools. The Student Senate helps the student trustee on the advisory committees of the School Board to improve schools and programs. Marshall and I will be taking over from this year’s MSS senators Bryce Mastelko and Savanna Webb.
Many students have spent time with the guidance counsellors sorting out their courses for next year. Students are also working hard on completing their culminating projects before exams, which run from Friday, June 23 until June 28.
As the school year winds down, there are many ideas and plans in the works to make the next school year memorable. ‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
