MSS girls’ gymnastics team wins gold at NOSSA

M’CHIGEENG—The Manitoulin Secondary School girls’ novice aerobic gymnastics team has once again won gold this year.

“The Manitoulin Secondary School girls’ gymnastics team was well-represented at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) championships in Sudbury on Monday with 12 girls competing,” said Heather Theijsmeijer, coach of the Mustangs.

Ms. Theijsmeijer explained, “the novice aerobic gymnastics team, defended their NOSSA title by winning gold, qualifying them for OFSAA at the end of the month.” The team included Roxy Rojas Brizuela, Jill Cooper, Alyssa Green, Donnshai Bruleigh, Yohana Ogbamichael and Eden Beaudin.

Other top 10 Mustangs finishes included: Donnshai Bruleigh, who finished eighth on the bars and 10th on the floor in level one; Maggie McDonald, who was 10th on bars in level three; Jadah McGraw ninth on bars in level three; Yohana Ogbamichael (captain of the team), who was ninth on the beam and 10th on the floor in level 3; and Victoria Tardif, eighth on the vault in level 2.

Zabrina Cosby, Kendra Jordison and Brynn Kiley rounded out the Mustangs team, and all represented MSS well, said Ms. Theijsmeijer.

The OFSAA gymnastics will be held April 24-26 in Windsor, Ontario.
