M’CHIGEENG – The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) annual Christmas shopping spree just continues to grow every year!
And the event, which took place last Friday evening and Saturday, drew a huge crowd of visitors and again this year saw the largest number of vendors on hand, this despite the fact that renovation work continues on the school for its 50th anniversary celebrations. Vendors were spread out in two main areas, the cafeteria, gymnasium and in various places in the hallways.
There was virtually everything you could want at this shopping extravaganza, from handmade clothes, knitted items, pictures and paintings, toys for kids, pictures and paintings, food, books, knick knacks, wreaths and much, much more.
“We have 53 vendors on hand, which is even more than last year,” stated Karlene Scott, one of the main organizers of the event.
Along with the vendors there was an auction table filled with items donated by many businesses and individuals, and much more.
“We had a good turnout of people here last night, and again today,” said Ms. Scott, last Saturday.
The MSS Mustangs girls’ hockey team put on a luncheon and the Share/Go Green committee manned a booth during the weekend. Proceeds from the weekend’s event goes to the MSS girls’ hockey team, and the Share/Go Green committee, student bursaries and more. “We use the funds raised from this weekend wherever it is needed in the school,” added Ms. Scott.
