Mona Gertrude Gelineau


Gelineau-DeathApril 12, 1922 – June 3, 2013

On June 3, 2013 Mona passed at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor for seniors in Little Current. During World War II Mona was employed in Toronto at an ammunition factory. Later she became an overseas telephone operator for Bell Canada. She relocated to Massey, later moved to Espanola with their three children Barry, Gerry and Elaine. She was a sales clerk at Tim Cronin’s Store. From 1967-1977 Mona owned and operated the Highway Confectionary. She gratefully appreciated her loyal customers and friends. She followed this as a security guard at Oshawa Foods in Toronto. Her favourite pastimes included volunteering for the Sudbury Cancer Society, skiing and snowmobiling. Mona was a loyal fan of hockey, figure skating and an avid reader of mystery novels. Predeceased by husbands Larry Michael, Leo Gelineau, and Frank Felske. Predeceased by parents John and Elizabeth Hammell. Loved mother of Barry Michael (Maxine) of Sudbury, Gerry Michael (Wendy predeceased) of Little Current, Elaine Leach (John) of Sheguiandah. Special grandmother of Kevin (Sue), Karline (Dave), Kirk (Wendy), Laurie (Rob), Debbie (Dave), Darren (April) and great-grandmother of Jessie, Jordan, Krista, Brenden, Cooper, Amanda, Taylor, Erica and Ayden. Sister to (all predeceased) Wilma (Alex) Deschamps, Al (Emily) Hammell, Ivan (Verda) Hammell, Vern (Cecilia) Hammell, Reta (Wes) Beckett. If so desired, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. At Mona’s request there will be no memorial service. Family will hold a graveside service at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Lively at a later date.
